Nature and Animals 1

Nature and Animals

Surrounded by nature, CasaLeTolfe boasts large green spaces stretching from Strada delle Tolfe to Torrente Bozzone. These spaces pass through vineyards, olive groves, woods and fields. These areas are perfect for walks, outdoor adventures and picnics surrounded by lush greenery.

Please leave the spaces immaculate as you find them and respect the flora and fauna of CasaLeTolfe!

This idyllic haven boasts a rich biodiversity that must be protected and preserved, such as the Italian roe deer can be seen strolling in the woods of CasaLeTolfe at dusk and occasionally during the day.

The hedgehog roams around the house in autumn and you may see the porcupine walking along the paths at night, leaving behind its lost quills.

You may also come across traces of tunnels dug by moles, so keep an eye out for them! Careful with big wild boars, they cross the road without looking!

Occasional guests include badgers and weasels. Foxes, on the other hand, roam around without too much fear after sunset.

Among migratory birds, we must mention the hoopoe and, above all, the swallow, with its closed nests built under the eaves of houses or in any room where a door is left open.

In winter, non-migratory birds such as robins, blackcaps and sparrows can be seen enjoying the fruits of pomegranate trees.

Special guests include green woodpeckers and red woodpeckers, which are present because we leave trees and dry branches standing, providing these animals with a veritable pantry.

At night, you can hear the song of the nightingale and the hooting of owls and scops owls. When walking in the evening, you may be surprised by the silent flight of these birds of prey. During the day, you can hear the calls of pheasants and turtle doves, which often roam the garden.

Notable insects include the swallowtail butterfly, the most beautiful in Italy with its large yellow and black wings spotted with red and blue; the cicada, which accompanies the hottest days; and the firefly, which puts on quite a show in June. To attract them to the house, simply turn off the garden lights.

The green frog arrives at CasaLi with the first autumn rains. In addition to lizards, we can see two protected species of reptile: the cute wall gecko and sometimes the Hermann's tortoise.

Finally, numerous centuries-old oak trees and cypress trees line the road.
